About Julien S. Bourrelle

Julien S. Bourrelle left his PhD studies and academic career a decade ago to focus on helping people connect and communicate across cultures. His cultural journey began at age 20 in Québec, where he spoke only French and had never left Canada. Today, he speaks four languages and has lived in five countries, developing a deep understanding of cultural dynamics, which he now shares through his lectures and books.

Julien holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University in Canada and a double Master of Science in Space Technologies from the Technical University of Munich in Germany and the Polytechnic University of Madrid in Spain. With each move, he consciously adapted his lifestyle to the local culture, gaining valuable insights on how to communicate across cultural boundaries and integrate into different societies.

Since 2009, Julien has lived in Norway, where he authored the best-selling series The Social Guidebook to Norway, The Swedes, and Cracking the Scandinavian Code. He is also the founder of Mondå Forlag, a publishing house dedicated to providing resources that help readers harness the benefits of cultural diversity. Mondå Forlag has published 11 titles on the subject of cultural differences.

Julien’s work on bridging cultures has gained significant traction on social media and in the press. He received the TOP 10 award from HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, recognizing him as an international role model in Norwegian working and social life. He is a frequent guest on Norwegian national radio and television and has appeared in two Canadian national TV documentaries, as well as being interviewed by Vladimir Pozner for his 2018 documentary series on the Nordic countries.
