Guy Verhofstadt is the President of the European Movement International, a former Member of the European Parliament, and a former Co-Chair of the Conference on the Future of Europe. Born in 1953, he quickly ascended the ranks of Belgian politics, becoming the liberal party president in 1982 at just 29 years old. By 1985, he was Deputy Prime Minister, and he served as Prime Minister of Belgium from 1999 until 2008.
After leaving office, Verhofstadt was elected to the European Parliament, where he led the Liberals and Democrats group from 2009 until 2019. He gained recognition as the Brexit coordinator and a passionate advocate for greater European integration to address the multiple crises facing the EU.
