Jean-Maurice Ripert is one of France’s most distinguished diplomats, with a career spanning four decades at the highest levels of international relations and multilateral diplomacy.
Ripert has held many of the most prestigious roles in French and global diplomacy. Ripert has served as France’s Ambassador to China, Russia, and Greece, as well as Permanent Representative to the United Nations in both Geneva and New York (PR UN Security Council). He was appointed UN Assistant Secretary-General and Special Envoy for humanitarian aid to Pakistan, and later led the European Union Delegation to Turkey as Ambassador.
Throughout his career, Ripert played a pivotal role in shaping humanitarian intervention, climate diplomacy, and the defense of human rights. As diplomatic advisor to Prime Minister Michel Rocard, he contributed to landmark initiatives such as the “Hague Appeal” and the Rio Earth Summit, which laid the foundations for today’s global climate agreements.
