About Nick Bostrom

Professor Nick Bostrom is a Swedish-born philosopher and polymath with expertise in theoretical physics, computational neuroscience, logic, artificial intelligence, and philosophy. He is a Professor at Oxford University, where he serves as the founding director of the Future of Humanity Institute (FHI). The FHI is a multidisciplinary research center that also houses the Centre for the Governance of Artificial Intelligence, as well as teams focused on AI safety, biosecurity, macrostrategy, and other foundational technology questions.

Professor Bostrom is the author of around 200 publications, including notable works such as Anthropic Bias (2002), Global Catastrophic Risks (2008), Human Enhancement (2009), and Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies (2014), a New York Times bestseller that sparked a global conversation about artificial intelligence. His influential work spans philosophy, science, ethics, and technology, shedding light on how our current actions affect long-term global outcomes and providing new perspectives on the human condition.

Bostrom has received the Eugene R. Gannon Award and has been listed twice on Foreign Policy’s Top 100 Global Thinkers list. He was also included on Prospect’s World Thinkers list, being the youngest person in the top 15. His writings have been translated into 28 languages, with more than 100 translations and reprints of his works. A repeat TED speaker, he has conducted over 2,000 interviews with various media outlets, including television, radio, and print.

As a graduate student, Bostrom dabbled in stand-up comedy on the London circuit, but he has since reconnected with the serious nature of his Swedish roots.
