About Mark Stevenson

Mark Stevenson, known as the ‘Reluctant Futurist,’ serves as a strategic advisor to governments, investors, NGOs, and corporations, and is the co-founder of the carbon removals company CUR8. Often branded as a ‘futurist’ by others, Mark prefers to be known as the ‘Chief Annoying Question Asker,’ helping organizations rethink their strategies in light of complex future challenges such as climate change, inequality, the retreat of democracy, and market failures in risk pricing.

His two bestselling books, An Optimist’s Tour of the Future and the award-winning We Do Things Differently, highlight practical solutions to current global issues. As a Global Ambassador for the environmental law firm Client Earth and soil health pioneers Oath, Mark also brings his expertise to the UK Ministry of Defence as a former strategic advisor on peace, national security, and climate change.

In addition to his advisory roles, Mark enjoys a successful side career as a comedy writer and songwriter, which he believes is crucial for maintaining the creativity and perspective needed in his strategic work. He emphasizes that “the brain does the PR for what the heart has already decided; if you can’t speak to the heart, any systems change is dead in the water.”

Mark co-hosts a popular podcast with comedian Jon Richardson and systems change advocate Ed Gillespie, available on all major platforms. His engaging approach and ability to address the heart of complex issues continue to make him a leading figure in strategic advisory and innovation.
