About Gilles Babinet

Gilles Babinet is a prominent French entrepreneur, born in Paris in 1967. Since 1989, he has founded nine companies across diverse industries, including mobile music (Musiwave, sold for $139M in 2006), co-creation (Eyeka), and Big Data marketing (CaptainDash). In addition to his entrepreneurial achievements, Gilles serves as Vice-President of the National Digital Council and holds the role of Digital Champion, representing France in digital affairs at the European Commission.

Recognized as a leading digital visionary in France, Gilles has worked closely with the think tank Institut Montaigne on research projects addressing digital competitiveness, inclusion, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT). In 2011, he was appointed Chairman of the National Digital Council by President Nicolas Sarkozy. From 2012 to 2018, Gilles represented France at the European Commission as its Digital Champion. He returned to the National Digital Council in June 2018 as Vice-Chair and is also a lecturer at SciencesPo Paris.

Gilles has authored several influential books that explore the transformative effects of digital technologies on society. His first book, L’Ère Numérique, Un Nouvel Âge de l’Humanité (2014), delves into how new technologies are reshaping key sectors such as education, healthcare, governance, knowledge, and production. His second book, Big Data: Penser l’Homme et le Monde Autrement (2015), examines the economic and social impact of big data. In 2017, Gilles published Transformation Digitale: L’Avènement des Plateformes, which discusses digital transformation strategies for large companies. His latest book, Green IA, explores how artificial intelligence is transforming various sectors—such as transportation, supply chains, agriculture, energy, the circular economy, and services—by enhancing energy efficiency, optimizing maintenance cycles, and enabling smarter, more sustainable production. Ultimately, it demonstrates how AI can significantly reduce negative environmental impacts across these industries.

In addition to his entrepreneurial ventures and writing, Gilles is a member of several boards, including EY and the EDF Foundation. He continues to influence the digital landscape through his leadership roles and ongoing contributions to public discourse on digital policy and transformation.
