About Eric Filiol

Eric Filiol is a former Lieutenant-Colonel of the French army and an expert in cyber-security, cyber-criminality, cryptology, and intelligence. He graduated as an engineer specialized in cryptology, holds a PhD in IT and applied mathematics from the prestigious Ecole Polytechnique, and has qualifications in InfoOps awarded by NATO.

Eric is currently heading the Operational Cryptography and Computer Virology lab at ESIEA in Laval, France. He is also the editor-in-chief of the research journal Journal in Computer Virology and Hacking Techniques, published by Springer Verlag. Additionally, Eric is the GostCrypt Project leader and the architect and designer of the DAVFI project, a new generation of anti-malware solutions.

During his time as an army officer, Eric worked for the DGSE, the French external intelligence agency, from 1991 to 1997 before joining the French military school of Saint-Cyr Coetquidan, where he started teaching computer virology until 2001. In 2004, he was awarded the Prix Roberval for his book Les virus informatiques : théorie, pratique et applications.
