About Claude Onesta

Claude Onesta has been the Head Coach of the French National Handball team since 2001. He is uniquely distinguished as the only coach to have won the three major titles in handball: European Champion (twice, in 2006 and 2010), World Champion (twice, in 2009 and 2011), and Olympic Champion (twice, in 2008 and 2012). Notably, he is the first coach for a French National team—and for any handball national team globally—to hold these three titles simultaneously.

Claude Onesta has received numerous accolades, including being voted Best Coach of the Year by the IHF in 2009 and 2010, and World Handball Coach of the Year in 2009. His French national team defended their Olympic gold from Beijing in London 2012 after a thrilling final against Sweden. Currently, he is focused on remodeling the French National Handball team in preparation for the 2017 World Championship to be held on home soil.

Earlier in his career, he led the French team to bronze medals at the 2003 World Men’s Handball Championship in Portugal and the 2005 World Men’s Handball Championship in Tunisia. Under his guidance, the French team also secured a bronze medal at the 2008 European Men’s Handball Championship in Norway.
