About Guillaume Nery

Guillaume grew up by the Mediterranean Sea in Nice. As a child, he spent his summers diving with his flippers and mask, exploring the underwater world with his father. At 14, he and a friend challenged each other to hold their breath for as long as possible, sparking an obsession that led him to meet Claude Chapuis, the founder of the international AIDA federation for breath-hold diving, who became his mentor.

Devoted to his passion, Guillaume made significant progress while working with Loic Leferme, a 5-time No-Limits world record holder, who became his role model, guide, and close friend. In 2002, Guillaume became the youngest ever free dive record holder by diving to a depth of -87m using only his fins. This marked the beginning of a remarkable journey. He went on to break the world record three times, becoming the world team champion in 2008 and the individual world champion in Greece in 2011, diving down to -117m. Nowadays, he dives to depths of -125m, setting a new France record.

Beyond competitions and records, Guillaume teaches deep diving at his school, CIPA in Nice, conducts training, engages in business activities, and explores new oceanic territories. His career truly took off with the 2010 film FREE FALL, produced with his partner Julie Gautier. The film features a scene of Guillaume walking on a seabed and diving into the Dean’s Blue Hole in the Bahamas, the deepest blue hole in the world. This scene captivated audiences worldwide, showcasing a new, artistic, and poetic approach to free diving.

Since then, Guillaume and Julie have worked on various film projects, including NARCOSE, written and produced by Julie, which portrays the profound depths Guillaume explored. For Guillaume, diving is more than a sport; it is an art form and a way of life that combines aesthetic appeal with high-performance levels.
